What did William of Normandy do in 1066?

All of the above answers are correct but what none of them tells you is that it was the best thing that ever happened to England. He strengthened and unified the kingdom and we were never again invaded by anyone. He also brought good laws, culture and wonderful architecture - Durham Cathedral, the Tower of London and many more. As a result of what he did, the English took a pride in their country and he made us what we are today.
