Does everything happen for a reason?

i have been in a very reflective mood lately so much is going on in the world and it has made me think does everything happen for a reason. I believe it does as just over the last few years especially it has opened my idea to the notion of fate. If you remove one part of your life the rest is affected thus that one factor was supposed to occur to then get the cog moving and help complete your life. If you think about that one thing never happening life wouldn't be as we know it. Thus everything must happen for a reason surely?
